Cold Plunge PLACEMENT

Can my Cold Plunge or Ice Bath Be Installed Outdoors?

We recommend your cold plunge or ice bath be kept in indoors. If indoors is not an option, a covered area outdoors protected from direct sun and rain is your next best option.

Arctic Zen products are built to be as water resistant as possible, but they are not rated to be waterproof. Remember to only use a GFI plug to power your cold plunge. Avoid exposing your plunge to direct hot sun, as the cooling components have to work overtime to compensate for direct heat, which is not ideal for the longevity of the unit or your electricity bill.

We recommend keeping your cold plunge covered with our extra thick insulated cover at all times when not plunging.  All of our products come with an integrated lid that is already insulated and we recommend keeping the exterior covered with a rain guard cover if its installed outdoors.

Does installation require a Plumber?

The Icebed products require no additional plumbing for standard use. However when considering your IceBed placement, you will want easy access to a garden hose and drain.

For a more integrated installation you might consider a free standing faucet and floor drain installation, but these things are not necessities for most users.

Does installation require an Electrician?

The simple answer is no, an electrician is not required. However all Arctic Zen products do require a standard GFI 110v 15a outlet that can handle at least 7amps of peak power located within 6 feet of the unit. If you are unsure about any of those specs, you should definitely hire an electrician to review your installation location.

Does it work in freezing temperatures?

If you live in a very cold environment and your plunge or ice bath is installed outdoors, please contact us for a thermostat controlled heating solution for your specific needs.

Does it work in Hot & Humid Environments?

Yes, all of our products are tested and designed to operate smoothly in our Southern California location where we typically experience hot summers. Keep in mind that it is always ideal to keep your plunge in a shaded area if it is installed outdoors.

How do I drain it?

The Arctic Zen Cold Plunge comes with a drain at the bottom of the tub. If your plunge is installed where you can safely drain it in its standing location without flooding anything, you can simply press the drain and it will drain within minutes.  If you cannot drain in place, use a garden hose to siphon the water out into a nearby drain or landscape area.

ArcticZen Ice Baths can be drained with a garden hose or a pump. The process is easy and takes about 15-30 minutes.

How loud is it?

Arctic Zen Cold Plunges & IceBaths are designed to run quietly and intermittently. Most installations and use cases do not require the pump or compressor to run 24/7. While running you can expect your unit to be fairly quiet - similar to a standard freezer/refrigerator and pond pump.

Will it fit in my home or office?

The Arctic Zen Cold Plunge and Cold Plunge XL are all designed to fit through a standard doorway.  The Arctic Zen Cold Plunge 5000 will not fit through a standard doorway as it is designed for larger areas. You will need a double door, bay door or sliding door that opens to 54" to fit the 5000 model inside your home or office.

Water Maintenance

How often do I clean the filter?

We recommend replacing the filter every 30 days for normal use. Heavy use may require once every two weeks and light use might require once every 3-6 months. Its best to check the filter after two weeks of your first use. If it looks clean, it does not need to be replaced.

How much do the filters cost?

We use standard 20 micron filters that cost about $5 each from Amazon.

How does the water stay clean?

All pool, spa and cold plunge water requires three things to stay clean: Circulation, Mechanical Filter & Sanitation.

The first two come with every product we sell. A pump provides circulation and the filter and its housing come with every product we offer.

The third and possibly the most important aspect of keeping your water clean is a choice that we leave up to you. The most popular way to sanitize water is with chlorine. If you do not like the idea of cold plunging in chlorinated water you have two other main options: Bromine or Peroxide. All of these choices are cheap and readily available.  Simply pick your sanitation method of choice and order it from Amazon along with a corresponding test kit to ensure you have the proper levels. If you already have a pool or spa, maintaining a cold plunge is very easy. You or your pool guy will have no problem maintaining the water.  If you do not or never have had a pool or spa, dont worry, its easy. Just think of the millions of pools and spas that are installed throughout the world.

General Questions

What is the difference between an Ice Bath and a Cold Plunge?

A true ice bath is more efficient than a cold plunge and can create lower temperatures. An ice bath does not use an external chiller and the water circulates withing the tank. An ice bath can create temperatures low enough to generate its own ice inside of the tank.

A cold plunge uses a tank with an external pump and chiller. Temperatures can get as low as 39°f in a cold plunge.  The benefits of a cold plunge vs a true ice bath typically come down to personal preference.

Both an ice bath and a cold plunge are equally effective in achieving the wonderful benefits of deliberate cold exposure.

What is the difference between Original, XL & XXL Models

Very simply, the XL gives larger people a few more inches of room. The XL is best for people up to 6ft 6in tall.
The Cold Plunge XXL is designed for very large individuals, multiple people or anyone who suffers from claustrophobia. An individual up to 400lbs can get into and sit down in the ArcticZen XXL.

What warranty is provided?

Arctic Zen products come with a full bumper to bumper warranty for 1 year.
All warranty terms cover manufacturer defects. Warranty terms do not cover abuse, incorrect use or user error.  A common mistake is to run the pump while dry, this will absolutely destroy the pump and is not covered under warranty. Extended warranty options are available.

What does the Ozone upgrade do?

We offer an Ozone upgrade option which adds an extra level of sanitization.  The ozone generator is a device that generates ozone and injects it into the water. The ozone kills most harmful bacteria and organisms.

Ozone can be used to replace sanitization chemicals or in conjunction with them.

Ozone should only be used in well ventilated areas or in outdoor installations. You must wait at least 2 hours to plunge after the ozone generator has run.  This is because ozone is hazardous when inhaled. The good thing is that ozone completely gasses off quickly.  If you have any concerns about this whatsoever, we recommend opting out of this option and simply using standard sanitation chemicals.

Does it come with a cover?

Covers are optional on all ArcticZen products. If your plunge is installed outdoors, a cover is a must. If your plunge is installed indoors, depending on the location and situation, you may decide you don't need a cover.

This keeps the cold air in, allowing for a more economical plunge that uses less energy to stay cool!

PLEASE NOTE: Please check your local state/region/country pool & spa laws and regulations to confirm any further compliance requirements.
